Today’s wine brings us to the heel of Italy’s boot. A warm climate known for full, luscious wines with inviting fruit and zesty spice. Puglia’s hot days are tempered by the cool Mediterranean breezes approaching from both sides of the region’s narrow landmass. This environment has proven to make delicious, quaffable wines perfect on their own or with your favorite pizza.
Li Veli is a producer as old as time yet their history has been a bit of a rollercoaster. In 1999, the Falvo family purchased the winery & estate vineyards with the intentions of revitalizing the property. Drawing on their decades of experience in Tuscany, they were quick to establish new standards. It wasn’t long before their vision took flight and great wines emerged with the Li Veli label.
We love a rich glass of red this time of year. Li Veli’s Passamante comes from the Salice Salento appellation where the varietal Negroamaro is king. The direct translation for this grape is ‘black- bitter’ because of the deep color and spice-tinged fruit flavors it yields in winemaking. These are exactly the flavors we crave during a cold winter’s night by the fire. Especially when they can be had for a mere $15. |
