A Winter Warmer, right on time …
Here we are in the dead of winter with snow & ice filling the forecast. Many of us look towards a glass to warm our souls this time of year and we’ve got a delicious red recommendation to do just that. Domaine Le Prieure is an ancient estate in the Rhone’s famous Chateauneuf appellation. Their thirty-ish acres of land are home to vines dating back 50-100 years old. Being that old make’s you pretty cool in the wine world.
While we’re not talking about their Chateauneuf, we are talking about some of their left over tanks and neighboring vineyards being blended down into their fabulous Cotes du Rhone. A wine dubbed “Cuvee de la Milliere”. The latter word is a reference to the ancient Roman word for ‘milestone’. And trust us … this wine sets the measure by which all other Cotes du Rhones should be held to.
Are you ready for a mouthful? The 2020 Domaine Le Prieure Cuvee de la Milliere Cotes du Rhone (don’t say we didn’t warn you) is crafted entirely from estate vineyards on a property as old as wine itself. The zip code for this producer is the most envied in all Southern Rhone. A classic blend of Grenache & Syrah results in racy red and black fruit character with judicious levels of spice with savory herb. Grab this winter warmer because as you would expect, these folks don’t make a lot of wine. Trust us … we’re just happy to share it with you. |
